Meet the Board
Lindsay Gorden: President
Hello, Eagles! I am Lindsay Gorden and I am the PTA President for the 2021-2022 school year. I am a stay-at-home mom to three great kids. Kate (9) will be a third grader at UWE, Emma (6) will be a first grader at UWE, and Ryan (4) attends ABC Preschool and will become an Eagle in the Fall of 2022. My husband, Steve, and I are so grateful for the amazing school community at Underwood and love to be involved in any way that we can. I am also the Girl Scout leader for the 3rd Grade Brownie troop and the 1st Grade Daisy troop at UWE. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, crafting, working out, and spending time with my family. I chose to become a part of PTA, so that I could take an active role in my children's elementary educational experience. As a former classroom teacher, PTA gave me the opportunity to connect with all those school experiences that I truly miss being away from the classroom, but also provide me the opportunity to be home at home with my kids.
Kelly Johnson: Vice President of Programs
Hi my name is Kelly Johnson. I am a VP of PTA and this is my 4 year on PTA.have a daughter Addison Sullivan in 5th grade and my son Dawson is in Kindergarten. I work for Lee’s Summit schools at Miller Park. In our spare time we spend it at the baseball and softball fields.
Ashlee McKelvey: Vice President of Membership
Hi! I’m Ashlee McKelvey. I have 4 great kids, 3 currently attend Underwood and our preschooler will join them next year. I teach pre-k at Abounding Love Preschool. I’ve been there for 4 years. I love it and love everything about my students. My family and I usually keep busy with sports. Our middle child is involved in every type of sport. We’re either at games or practices. As a family we enjoy playing catch or shooting goals in the back yard, watching movies together, and just spending time together. We have a big family! There’s 6 of us!
I joined PTA this year for many reasons. The main reason is I wanted to be apart of a team that makes the school a better place for my children. I wanted to be able to help in anyway that I could. I figured since we’ll be Underwood Eagles for some time that I should at least be apart in any way possible.
I’m excited for this new school year and what is to come.
Lauren Burrer: Vice President of Volunteers
Natalie Overman: Treasurer
Natalie Overman, PTA Treasurer, HR Specialist by day, 2 girls Olivia(7), Annistyn(2), Hobbies-Scrapbooking, exercise, cooking, chose to be on PTA to be involved with my daughters’ school and around the kids. We would love for you to join us this year and following years to help support our staff and most importantly our students!
Jennifer Leonard: Recording Secretary
I have a 6th grader (Chloe), a 7th grader (Caleb) and a LSN senior (Richie).
I have been on the board for 2 years and have been a PTA volunteer for 12 years. I volunteer with PTA because I enjoy getting to meet the children and their families as well as the school staff. I have really appreciated all that the teachers, administrators and ancillary staff have done for our children and families over the years, and i want to contribute back to them in a positive way.
Holly Long: Events Committee
Hello, I am Holly Long. I work in the philanthropy sector as the Development Officer for Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), a national Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). I am the proud wife of Ryan Long. We are the proud parents of Raelyn Long (age 6) 1st grader here at UWE and future UWE Eagle Christian Long (age 23 months) who attends the Goddard School Lakewood.
We are members of Memorial Church International in Kansas City, MO. I volunteer my time, my talent and financial support to the following organizations that are near and dear to my heart and my personal mission:
The Kansas City Alumni of Historical Black College and Universities
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Xi Tau Omega Chapter
The Central Exchange
Lead to Read KC (Board of Directors)
Black Excellence Kansas City (Board of Directors)
I have always had an active role in my children's development and education. Serving on the PTA here at UWE was a no brainer! Ensuring that all of our kids have a safe and loving school environment is essential to their development as outstanding and inclusive world citizens. My hope for the PTA of UWE is to show to our parents, students, faculty and staff that we are better working together than apart! It is our responsibility as a school community to provide a training ground for life- a place of true inclusion and acceptance for all. Please join us on our journey to ensure that all our students have the best elementary school experiences possible. We need your help!
